Harry Potter notches up box office high

First part of final instalment in series takes $125 million in its opening weekend in US.

According to internet reports this morning, the first part of the final Harry Potter film - The Deathly Hallows - is on course to break all manner of box office records after a storming opening weekend in various territories.

The estimated worldwide weekend box office total is $330.1 million, Cynopsis Kids said.

In the US, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows earned $61 million on its opening day, and an estimated $125.1 million across the weekend. This figure puts the film as the sixth biggest movie opening weekend (source: Box Office Mojo).

Cynopsis Kids went on to say that in the UK, the film took an estimated $28 million across the three days, including $9.5 million on the opening day (Friday November 19th) and $10.6 million on the Saturday.
