Hollywood studios have undergone a great film slate reshuffle after Star Wars: Episode VIII was moved from its original release date of May 26th, 2017.

The second in the planned trilogy of Star Wars movies – following on from the triumphant Star Wars: The Force Awakens - will now hit cinemas from December 15 2017.

The move has in turn left a hole in the blockbuster movie film slate for 2017, forcing distributors to re-evaluate their own planned release dates of titles such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Spider-Man and Jumanji.

Pirates of the Caribbean has now been moved forward from its July 7th, 2017 slot to occupy the Star Wars’ original release date of May 26th, 2017.

In turn, Sony’s Spider-Man reboot has now been moved from its July 28th slot to Pirates’ former place on July 7th, 2017, while Jumanji – another Sony title – is bumped up to take the vacant July 2017 slot from its previous Christmas Day 2016 date.

Elsewhere and following its poor critical reception in June 2015, the future of the Terminator Genisys follow up titles have been left hanging in the balance. The two other films in the trilogy were set for release on May 19th, 2017 and June 29th, 2018, but the former has now been pulled by distributor Paramount.

However, Paramount won’t be left without a movie for the May 19th slot, bumping up its Baywatch movie to occupy the release date.
