Hornby has signed a worldwide licence with Adastra Creative Limited to make toys based on the hit pre-school TV show Grandpa in My Pocket.
Hornby will produce a range of official toys under its Corgi Toys sub brand, including plastic vehicles, figurines, play-sets and Diecast vehicles. The products will arrive in retailers during autumn/winter 2013.
Grandpa in My Pocket has been nominated for a BAFTA on three occasions and won the Welsh BAFTA for best children’s programme. The CBeebies show, which stars James Bolam, has been sold to over 104 countries.
Nat Southworth, sales and marketing director for Hornby, said: “Grandpa in My Pocket is a fantastic programme and we are delighted to be producing the toys.
“The show has such a positive message and brand fit with us. There is also the ‘shrinking cap’ allowing Grandpa to enjoy toys as well. It’s perfect for the Hornby family of brands”.
Mellie Buse of Adastra Creative Limited added: “Fans have been asking for these toys for a long while, so we’re extremely excited about Hornby’s plans.
“It’s great timing because it ties in with the tour of the first Grandpa Stage Show, currently at The Nottingham Playhouse and due to travel the country next year.”
