Horrible Histories ramps up activity

Creative Rights Agency reveals new partners; raft of media activity planned for summer.

A host of activity will be taking place across the UK for the Horrible Histories brand this summer.

Creative Rights Agency has added UK Greetings (greetings cards, giftwrap and tags), Green Board Games (Brain Box range) and Sophisticated Games (Awesome Egyptians board game), while Winning Moves and Galt Toys have both renewed their deals.

"The strategy is to have a range of exciting new Horrible Histories product out in the marketplace for autumn this year," explained CRA's Richard Scrivener. "This will follow a summer of extensive media activity which will include the transmission of the new critically acclaimed Horrible Histories TV series, and Gory Games quiz show on CBBC, plus Scholastic UK's launch of the Horrible Histories Virtual World."

Meanwhile, the stage version of Horrible Histories continues to tour Britain. Produced by the Birmingham Stage Company, it takes the audience back to the time of the Romans and the Egyptians.

In addition, Scholastic Children's Books' publishing plans for the brand include Who's Horrible in History (due this autumn), and The Horrible History of Britain and Ireland (due in 2012).

"This is a major year for the brand," said Lisa Edwards, publishing and commercial director at Scholastic. "We have two new TV series broadcasting at the end of May, a live Proms event and the launch of our major initiative - the Horrible Histories Virtual World, which will give fans the chance to become part of the world they love so much in the book series."
