Old Bear - the classic picture book brand featuring Old Bear and his friends Bramwell Brown, Little Bear, Duck, Rabbit and more - has been signed by Ignition Licensing.

Since its first publication in 1986, the series by Jane Hissey has sold over seven million copies worldwide and spawned a TV series and a successful licensing programme.

The books are now set to be republished by the ‘Scribblers’ imprint of Brighton based children’s publisher Salariya.

Ignition’s Maggy Harris said: "I have always loved the Old Bear illustrations and storylines and think it is perfect timing to re-publish this well loved and trusted series by the talented artist Jane Hissey. Old Bear is a classic childrens’ book property with proven consumer recognition and a strong creative identity."

David Salariya, MD of The Salariya Book Company, says: "Jane Hissey is a terrific storyteller and artist and we are pleased and flattered that Jane has chosen to publish the much loved classic Old Bear books with The Salariya Book Company. We are also enjoying working with Jane on her first new picture book with new characters to be published by Scribblers in the spring of 2013."
