Imira Entertainment has secured a number of Latin American and Iberian sales for The Smurfs animation from IMPS.

Cartoon Network in Spain has acquired 104 episodes of the series for free and pay TV.

In addition, further free TV deals have been inked with UCV Televisión in Chile; Televisora de Costa Rica; and Ecuador's RTV.

Meanwhile, in Portugal, pay TV channel SIC has acquired 26 episodes.

Imira represents the rights in Iberia and Latin America (with the exception of Mexico and Brazil) to the classic show.

"Everyone's favourite blue characters are heading to new Spanish-speaking markets, and we are sure that it will be a welcome addition to television screens in Spain, Latin America and Portugal," said Christophe Goldberger, head of distribution and marketing at Imira.

"It's a classic property whose popularity shows no signs of slowing down - much like the Smurfs themselves."
