Universal Brand Development has partnered with the Italian designer, Alessandro Enriquez to launch a capsule collection inspired by Felix the Cat.
The collection, representing the iconic cartoon character, will debut at the 93rd edition of Pitti Uomo, the international event for men’s fashion and lifestyle projects.
Felix the Cat made his own big screen debut in 1919 before going on to have his own cartoon strip and cartoon series. He also holds the title of being the first image to be transmitted across the television airways in 1928 and went on to become a pop icon.
Created by a team of animators, Felix the Cat appeared in over 100 movies between the 1920s and 30s and, in his role as an international pop icon, has appeared in a number of collaborations in the fashion industry, including Castelbajac Paris, Coach, Scotch & Soda and Fyodor Golan.
The recent partnership with Alessandro Enriquez was brokered by CPLG Italy and will see Felix the Cat reimagined throughout apparel items such as sweatshirts, t-shirts, knitwear and shirts.
Enriquez is also working on a limited edition Felix the Cat t-shirt collection, to be sold exclusively in the Milanese boutique banner during Saint Valentine week as part of a charity event.
“We are delighted about this partnership with Alessandro Enriquez, " said Maria Gurrieri, managing director, CPLG Southern Europe.
"He has a unique talent to turn classic artwork into fresh and lively designs. The Felix the Cat capsule collection is both true to itself and at the same time has a unique Italian contemporary flair.”
