The list of public broadcasters for Icon Animation's new girl property Lola & Virginia is growing - with Italy's Rai the latest to sign up.

The programme has sold worldwide in over 40 territories to broadcasters including RTVE, France 3, RTP, as well as Nickelodeon in Latin America, Asia and France, plus the Disney Channels in Spain and Italy.

Its broadcast presence is supported by a licensing and merchandising strategy with includes a deal for Spain and Portugal with Comercial Nim. Products include school sets, stationery, backpacks and pencil cases, with further lines planned in the future.

Panini is due to launch a series of products across Spain, Portugal, Italy and Brazil, while Grupo Edebe has already launched ten manga style comic books in Spain and Alvento is distributing ring tones, games, images, screensavers and a WAP portal.

"This is a major deal for us and we are delighted to add Rai to the growing list of public broadcasters airing the series," said Christophe Goldberger, head of distribution and marketing at Icon. "We are committed to extending the presence of the series on television platforms worldwide alongside our expanding licensing and merchandising activity."
