Lyrics penned by The Beatles’ revered songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney are to be turned into a series of children’s picture books.
Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing has secured a new licensing agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Epic Rights to create two new children’s book titles inspired by the group’s hit tracks.
The first lyrical picture book will be titled All You Need is Love and will feature artwork by the New York Times bestselling illustrator Marc Rosenthal. It will look to bring the iconic song to life in book form by ‘showing children that love is all around them’ when it hits shelves in January next year.
A second picture book will be published in a future season.
“This timeless song rings true now more than ever,” said Valerie Garfield, vice president and publisher of Little Simon, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.
“We feel there is always a market for books about hope, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney have written songs that resonate with parents and children who want to look at the world with hope and love.”
Lennon and McCartney formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships in the history of pop music.
“We are honoured to be partnering with a publisher of such calibre as Simon & Schusetr to create this brand extension,” said Rod Kotler, VP, merchandise and consumer products, Sony/ATV.
“We trust they will honour the legacy of Lennon and McCartney’s songs, which have been loved by so many for decades.”
Illustrator, Marc Rosenthal has a slew of popular children’s books to his name already, with a catalogue that includes titles like Small Walt by Elizabeth Verdick, I Must Have Bobo, I’ll Save You Bobo and Bobo the Sailor Man, all by Eileen Rosenthal.
Rosenthal’s illustrations have featured regularly in other publications such as The New Yorker, Time, Forbes, Fortune, The Atlantic and more.
