Independent production company Kindle Entertainment is to produce a 90-minute feature film, based on the novel by best selling author Jacqueline Wilson, Dustbin Baby.
The family drama will premiere on BBC1 later this year and will include stars such as Juliet Stevenson, Dakota Blue Richards and David Haig.
The film follows the story of young teen April whose troubled life began in a dustbin.
"We are delighted to have such an outstanding cast and production team to bring Jacqueline Wilson's heartbreaking, but ultimately uplifting story, to a family audience," said Anne Brogan, co-founder of Kindle Entertainment and executive producer. "It is a film that parents and children will enjoy watching together whilst its emotive themes of identity and parenthood will also give them much to talk about afterwards.
"We are confident the film will be a big hit on BBC One."
