License India has secured the first licensing agreement for India's star cricketer, Harbhajan Singh.

Plans include a line of apparel and accessories, plus a chain of restaurants under the name of Bhajji Da Dhaba.

At the signing of the deal, Singh said: "Setting up a restaurant has been a part of my plans for years; hence Bhajji Da Dhaba would be the best fit for my first licensing deal. I'm also eager to launch my first signature product in a few months and look forward to developing additional sports equipment and academies in the coming years."

Gaurav Marya, president of License India, added: "Despite economic, retail and consumer uncertainty worldwide, licensing and merchandising - which historically has weathered other downturns, albeit less serious ones - remains a viable and resilient industry that will continue to grow and expand through 2010 and beyond.

"License India could not have any other best alternative than Harbhajan Singh. Personality licensing is a very upcoming business domain in India and is fast gaining acceptability which is expected to reach its maximum level in the coming years."

License India will be giving fans of Singh the chance to create a logo for him in a special Crazy for Bhajji contest.
