Little Airplane Productions - the creater of TV programmes such as 3rd and Bird - has launched Little Airplane Books, a new division which will create and produce original books for pre-schoolers and early readers.
The division - which will be headed up by writer, director and producer Tone Thyne - will be officially introduced during a special reading event for children at the Little Airplane Studios in South Street Seaport, New York, featuring Academy Award winning actress Marcia Gay Harden.
Harden is due to read from president and founder Josh Selig's book of children's poems entitled A Book For You.
"We will be writing, designing and binding all of our books in our South Street Seaport studio using our own creative team," commented Selig. "This philosophy of making everything under one roof has worked for our television shows and I believe it will work for our children's books.
"We are committed to bringing high quality craftsmanship back into the lives of children."
Little Airplane Books follows the company's announcement of Little Airplane Films earlier in the year. In March, the firm opened its London studio, marking its first permanent base outside of the US. Prior to that, Little Airplane opened its flagship NY production facility in the South Street Seaport for tours to the public.
