Marvel details merchandising plans for Thor and Captain America sequels

Marvel Entertainment, LLC and Disney Consumer Products have detailed the merchandising plans for upcoming blockbusters Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Ranges for the Avengers stars will span categories including toys, collectables, apparel, accessories, stationery and consumables.

The consumer product lines aim to support both films as well as maintain a strong retail presence for The Avengers franchise throughout 2013 and 2014 prior to Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron landing in cinemas in summer 2015.

“Our strategy for The Avengers has been designed to elevate the franchise into the quintessential boys brand at retail 365 days a year," said Paul Gitter, senior vice president, licensing, Marvel at Disney Consumer Products.

"These upcoming tentpole films provide great opportunities to turn up the volume on merchandising support around key characters and the team overall.

“For the Thor and Captain America movies we have once again aligned with best-in-class partners who are developing highly innovative product lines that will keep these characters in great demand at retail.”

Thor and his hammer will hit retail through a consumer products line-up from more than 75 licensees including Hasbro, Disguise, Funko, Turtle Beach, Upper Deck, NECA, Mad Engine, New Era and

Ranges span Hasbro action figures and role play items, Funko Pop! Vinyl Bobble Heads, Halloween costumes from Disguise, Turtle Beach headphones, men’s t-shirts from Mad Engine, and designer hats from New Era and Berkshire, with products rolling out now.

Elsewhere, Captain America's product range comes from more than 125 partners including Hasbro, LEGO, Hallmark, Sideshow, Funko, Pez, Mad Engine, C-Life, Berkshire, and Under Armour. 

The line-up features toys, games and role play items from Hasbro, party goods from Hallmark, sweets from Pez, and performance apparel from Under Armour, all scheduled to land on shelves in spring 2014.

Thor: The Dark World hammers into UK cinemas on October 30th, while Captain America returns in The Winter Soldier on May 2nd 2014.
