Marvel Entertainment has earmarked Canada has its next key area of growth, hiring SEGAL Licensing to represent it in the territory.

SEGAL is the largest licensing agent in Canada representing the best of TV, film and character-based properties including the likes of Dreamworks Animation, Paramount Pictures and Fox Studios.

Its appointment by Marvel is part of a new aggressive strategy to expand its presence in territories that have previously been underserved and also reflects Marvel's commitment to international growth.

Marvel is coming building momentum on the production of its slate of self-produced films: the first two being Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, due next summer.

SEGAL will aim to expand current relationships with licensees, as well as cultivate new categories and product innovations.

"SEGAL has a truly unparalleled knowledge of the Canadian landscape and will bring a greater focus for Marvel in Canada," said Paul Gitter, president of consumer products for North America at Marvel.

"We will look to leverage their experience with retailers, manufacturers and other companies in the marketplace to help expand Marvel's presence in Canada in a meaningful way and significantly grow our business there."

Stuart Pollock, president of SEGAL Licensing, added: "We are thrilled to be working with the super heroes of the licensing industry. Marvel's properties are hugely exciting and appealing to people of all ages."
