Free to play online game Marvel Super Hero Squad has soared past four million registered players worldwide, with further expansion for Europe the next goal for the creators.

The massively multiplayer online game launched in 2011 and features super heroes from the Marvel universe such as Iron Man, Spider-man, Thor, Wolverine and Captain America.

Maker Gazillion is now planning to relaunch HeroUp.com, the Marvel Super Hero Squad Online website and game portal. The redesigned site will allow streamlined access to the game and will also serve as the home site for European players.

"Breaking four million registered users is a tremendous achievement for Marvel Super Hero Squad Online and for Gazillion Entertainment," said David Brevik, president and COO. "We love the passion that our players have shown for the game, and we are excited to continue to put out new and exciting content for them to enjoy."

Rob Steffens, GM of Marvel Studios, added: "We're very proud of the latest achievements of Super Hero Squad Online and our partner, Gazillion Entertainment."
