Club Penguin has seen millions of players log on since it began a Marvel superhero site takeover on June 14th.

The first of its kind event allows players on the virtual world to dress as their favourite Marvel super hero of super villain - and it has become the most trafficked event in Club Penguin history.

Some 20 million play sessions have been logged across more than 200 countries since the promo began.

The event - which ended on July 3rd - led to the highest-trafficked day of the year, and has been a key driver in helping double the site's number of daily players since the start of the year.

In addition, more than 2.5 million Marvel-themed items have been purchased from the party catalogue, with players spending more than one billion virtual coins on Marvel gear.

Iron Man was the most popular costumes with players, while Captain America's shield was the most popular item.
