Mel Beer heads to HarperCollins

Former ITV and Jetix exec takes on head of licensing and content development role at publisher.

HarperCollins Publishers has announced that Melanie Beer will be joining the company as head of licensing and content development, children's from December 1st.

Popular industry personality Beer was most recently global merchandising and licensing director for ITV, a role she left in September (click here for the story).

She has also enjoyed stints at Jetix, Warner Bros and BBC Worldwide, and brings over ten years of experience within the licensing business to her new role.

Beer will report to Lucy Vanderbilt, rights director, and Mario Santos, MD, Children's.

Vanderbilt said: “I am delighted that Mel is joining us in this important strategic role. HarperCollins Children's Books are committed to extending the services we offer to our authors and content providers to provide opportunities for their work to be exploited well beyond just a book format.

"Key parts of our strategy are to become a destination for intellectual property owners and to be able to create our own entertainment content from scratch. Mel will be responsible for the exploitation of merchandising, film, and television rights, and I know that her energy and experience in licensing, together with our commitment to brand development and management, will play a major part in our expansion plans."
