Universal's Despicable Me spin-off Minions has been delayed from Christmas 2014 to summer 2015, states The Hollywood Reporter.

The news comes days after Pixar revealed it would have no film coming out next year, and the Minions delay now also leaves Universal without an animated film release in 2014.

Minions will now land in cinemas on July 10th 2015, the same time of year that Despicable Me 2 arrived this year.

Universal will hope this boosts the chances of the Minions movie doing similar business as Despicable Me 2, which became the third biggest animated film of all time in the UK earlier this month, and has made over $850m worldwide to date.
