Mr Bean hits 50 million Facebook friends

Iconic comedy character Mr Bean has arrived at 50 million friends on Facebook.

The character, created 23 years ago, has enjoyed life as an animated series following the Rowan Atkinson show and now compares favourably to some of the biggest properties around today
Mr Bean sits just behind The Simpsons' 69 million friends, but is ahead Spongebob Squarepants (46 million), Angry Birds (26 million), Hello Kitty (14 million), Garfield (11 million) and Moshi Monsters (One million).

A new animated series as well as a series of licensing deals are on the way, and as well as enjoying Facebook popularity, the Mr Bean Channel on YouTube has now passed the 1 million subscriber mark..

Producers hope that in his Silver Jubilee year, 2015, that Mr Bean will reach another milestone of 100 million Facebook friends.

“It is exciting each day to see the numbers rising," executive producer Katherine Senior said.

"We only founded the Mr Bean Facebook page three years ago and it is such a brilliant means of reaching our fans all around the world. Their responses to our posts really do help us to know what our fans like. 

"50 million people can’t be wrong."
