Nelvana Enterprises and The Clifford Ross Company are due to kick off a number of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Babar.
A second season of CG animation, Babar and the Adventures of Badou, will begin international delivery this month. The first series airs on a number of international broadcasters, including Disney Junior in the US and TF1 in France, where it delivers 28 per cent average market share of kids aged four to ten in its morning slot on Tfou.
From December 8th 2011 through to September 2nd 2012, Babar will be featured in the Toy Gallery at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The history of the Babar books will be presented through a selection of 100 original illustration boards from institutions including the Bibliothéque Nationale de France and The Morgan Library and Museum in New York.
Along with photo archives, the exhibition will display plush toys, games, action figures and wheeled toys from as early as 1930, along with more modern day licensed products.
In terms of consumer products, in France, a line of books based on the new TV series has been introduced by Hachette Jeunesse, with the firm planning to publish 50-60 titles over the next three years.
TF1 Licences is the agent for the Babar brand in France and Benelux, with key licensees on board including Lansay, Bayard, Hatier, Sun City, CTI and Smoby.
