After 75 years, the tales of Babar are being given a 21st century update, with Nelvana revealing 3D animated series The New Adventures of Babar is now in production.
26 episodes are in the works, with broadcast set for autumn 2010/spring 2011 on TF1 in France and YTV in Canada. Playhouse Disney France is also pre-buying the series to air in the second broadcast window.
The series will introduce King Babar's eight year-old grandson, exploring the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. Other new characters will include Chiku the monkey, Monroe the porcupine, Zawadi the zebra and Jake the hyena.
"The New Adventures of Babar is sure to inspire a whole new generation of young fans, while rekindling heartwarming memories for their parents, with fun and meaningful stories about growing up and growing older," commented Doug Murphy, president of Nelvana and general manager of Corus Kids.
