New activity boosts Peppa

Contender's popular pre-school property Peppa Pig remains as one of the UK's fastest selling licensed properties within the toy sector, according to new data from NPD.

For the month of September, the brand had a 4.2 per cent market share, overtaking Bob the Builder to take the number two spot in pre-school. Character Options' new campervan toy, introduced this autumn, has already enjoyed success with estimated sales to reach over 100,000 by the end of 2007.

The campervan playset was also recently named in the Toy Retailers Association listing of the top 12 pre-school toys for the Christmas season.

Contender has also recently released an extended special episode on DVD - Peppa's Christmas. The disc also includes ten other episodes from series two of the show - which airs on Milkshake and Nick Jr - with a full TV advertising campaign already underway.

As the retail success continues, the licensee list keeps growing. Recent signings include Euromark (toiletries), Wesco (clocks, watches and piggy banks), VMC (dress-up) and Mookie (outdoor play).

Peppa Pig has also been nominated in the Pre-school Animation category at this year's children's BAFTAs. Peppa previously won the BAFTA in 2005.
