Damian Kavanagh is making the move from Daytime at the BBC to become controller of CBBC later on this year.

Kavanagh will replace Anne Gilchrist, who after three years of running the department, is joining the BBC in-house comedy team as creative and business director. He will be on an initial year's attachment.

"Damian will bring fantastic vision, creativity and drive to CBBC," commented Richard Deverell, controller of BBC Children's. "He worked with Anne two years ago in establishing the current CBBC positioning and is determined to strengthen and build on this with new ideas.

"He is wholly dedicated to public service broadcasting and to delighting children with wonderful experiences on the website and the channel."

Kavanagh will oversee all programmes and multiplatform commissioning for the CBBC channel and the two dedicated blocks on BBC1 and BBC2.
