Turner Broadcasting has acquired the new CGI series of Garfield from French producer Dargaud Media.
The 52x11-minute episodes of The Garfield Show are due to be broadcast on Cartoon Network in 2009 and will be shot in HD.
The series is timed to coincide with the character's 30th anniversary and will air in territories across Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
"We're delighted to have acquired this new CGI series of Garfield," said Cecilia Persson, VP of programming, acquisition and presentation for Turner. "30 years on, Garfield is as popular as ever, with a regular comic strip in 63 countries across the world, two blockbuster feature films and heavyweight presence across web, DVD, licensing and publishing. This new show celebrates Garfield's return to TV."
