BBC Worldwide has revealed the launch of a magazine, a range of books and a DVD partner for pre-school show In the Night Garden in China, following its successful debut on Chinese Central Television last week.
Licensing agent U Young has been appointed to develop a comprehensive licensing programme across categories in China for the property.
In the Night Garden magazine will launch in China on June 1st. The title, licensed to You You Xing Media, will be published in Chinese and will have an initial print run of 150,000 copies - increasing to 500,000 with subsequent issues.
The Chinese edition will be the second international licence for the magazine: In the Night Garden Middle East launched in December 2008.
Meanwhile, BBC Children's Books has secured Children's Fun as the Chinese publisher for In the Night Garden. The firm has already worked on Teletubbies. It will be launching eight Mandarin storybooks, followed by a range of activity books, with further publishing rolling out in 2010.
Finally, Excel Media - an existing BBC Worldwide partner for Charlie & Lola - will release two DVD titles in June, with an initial production run of 5,000 copies. Two titles are planned for launch each month.
"We're delighted to be able to celebrate our partnerships with Chinese businesses CCTV, U Young and Excel Media to bring In the Night Garden to a whole new audience," said Neil Ross Russell, MD of BBC Worldwide Children's & Licensing.
