HarperCollins Children's Books has signed Michael Bond for a new book based on Paddington Bear.
Love from Paddington is a series of letters from Paddington to his Aunt Lucy back in Peru. They recount his amusing escapades following his arrival in London and his now famous first encounter with the Brown family at Paddington station.
Rachel Denwood, publishing and creative director at HarperCollins, acquired the World English language rights from Hilary Delamere at The Agency.
HarperCollins will publish an illustrated hardback gift edition in November, capitilising on the hype surrounding the Paddington Movie, which hits the UK on November 28th.
Denwood commented: "It gives me great pleasure to see Paddington, the iconic London bear and his creator Michael Bond, both of whom are dearly loved by all of us at HarperCollins, taking on the world this year with this beautiful book of letters and a major film."
Bond added: "It isn't generally known, but bears are very good at writing letters."
Bond's first book, A Bear Called Paddington, was published in 1958 and has continually been in print for over 50 years.
