Nickelodeon is top in the US

Network marks 13th straight year as the number one choice with US viewers.

Nickelodeon will end 2007 in first place among total viewers in the US and at number one with all core kids' demographics, according to new research from Nielsen Media.

The firm stated that for the year to date (01/01/07-12/09/07), Nick delivered 2.1 million total viewers - 25 per cent ahead of the next closest-ranked network - and averaged 3.5/1.2 million kids two to 11, and a 3.3/674,000 kids six to 11, ahead of Cartoon Network by 94 per cent and Disney Channel by +21 per cent.

The Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group also generated huge growth in the digital space in 2007, earning the top spot according to comScore, in terms of visitors against competitors Disney Online and Cartoon Network Online.

Television highlights for the year included live action series iCarly, the first scripted series to incorporate kid-created original content; and mockumentary comedy series The Naked Brothers Band (which became one of the top rated shows for kids aged six to 11).

Nick Jr continued to dominate pre-school programming with seven out of ten of the top weekday pre-school shows on TV, including the number one Dora the Explorer.

Spongebob Squarepants (pictured) also netted its biggest audience ever with the Spongebob Atlantis Squarepantis event.
