Hit Entertainment has become the latest firm to offer its programming for purchase or download through the iTunes store in the UK.

Launching in April, the Hit content on iTunes will feature over 20 hours of episodic downloads from such children's shows as Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends and Captain Pugwash.

Half hour episodes will be offered for download at £1.89 each and will allow users to watch the shows on a PC or Mac, video-enabled iPod, iPhone or Apple TV.

Back in January, Aardman Animations revealed that several of its properties would be available through the store.

"The new Hit TV shows on iTunes present a great opportunity to further extend the reach and distribution of our programming to young fans across the UK," said Ryan Tunstall, IT and operations director at Hit. "iTunes will sit alongside existing deals with online outlets such as YouTube in the UK to bring our content to more viewers."

Hit is planning to further extend its offering on digital channels to include other properties in its portfolio throughout the year.
