The best selling Olivia books from Simon & Schuster will be bought to life in a new animated TV series to be aired on Nickelodeon in 2009.
The channel has struck a deal with Chorion, and is now planning to launch the new 3D CGI series of 26 half hour episodes during the first quarter of next year.
Academy Award nominated animation studio Brown Bag Films will be animating the project and Teri Weiss will be the executive in charge, with Chorion's Diana Manson, EVP of creative and Megan Laughton, director of creative.
In keeping with the property's publishing history, books will be prominently featured in the upcoming consumer products roll out. The Simon Spotlight and Simon Scribbles imprints of Simon & Schuster will be developing a TV tie-in programme including storybooks, novelty and colouring books. These will launch in late 2009.
The book series has already been translated into more than 20 languages.
"Olivia is one of Simon & Schuster's most important franchise series and we are both excited and confident that the Chorion and Nickelodeon collaboration will result in a first class show that is on par with the level of excellence that readers and fans associate with Olivia," said Rick Richter, president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing.
Chorion's Diana Manson added: "Early in the development process, Ian [Falconer, the author] encouraged us to consider 3D CGI for the adaptation to television. It was a brilliant idea and it inspired us to find Brown Bag Films. They have been a wonderful partner, as have the team at Nickelodeon."
