Rainbow Designs is to mark the opening of Heathrow's new Terminal 5 this week with a limited edition Paddington Bear.

Only 2,008 bears will be manufactured and the commemorative Paddington will be wearing a black velveteen coat with a leatherette suitcase embossed with the Terminal 5 logo. Each 36cm bear will feature an individually numbered 'limited edition' hang tag.

The bears will be available exclusively from World Duty Free from March 27th.

"Paddington has always been thought of as a well-travelled bear and it's fantastic for Rainbow and Paddington, in his birthday year, to be part of this landmark event for Heathrow airport," said Anthony Temple, Rainbow Designs' MD.

"With only 2,008 bears created, demand amongst travellers and collectors alike will be great. Paddington's profile is already very strong and this link-up looks set to see demand soar sky high."

Fraser Dunlop, head of category for tax free items at World Duty Free, added: "Paddington Bear is a universally-recognised, iconic character in children's literature and we are delighted to offer this limited edition cuddly toy as a World Duty Free exclusive. The new Paddington Bear will be a collector's item and at £25 is a must-have for all bear enthusiasts."
