With the Paramount Pictures/Dreamworks film currently scaring cinema audiences in the US, Paramount Licensing has inked several merchandise deals for Paranormal Activity.
The low budget film, directed by newcomer Oren Peli, took off after being viewed by Steven Spielberg and screened at the 2008 Slamdance Film Festival.
It went on to break box office records for the highest weekend gross ever for a film released in under 200 theatres. This nearly doubled the original record, set by Platoon in 1986.
To date, Paranormal Activity has grossed over $100 million at the box office in just seven weeks since it opened to limited release on September 25th.
In terms of licensing, Aquarius has signed for posters, postcards and playing cards; Breygent Marketing will be producing trading cards in the US next year; Changes has rolled out t-shirts (pictured); IDW has online comics, available through the iTunes App store; Import Dragons boasts stationery items in Canada; NTD has t-shirts and hoodies; and Scorpio is rolling out posters in the US now.
