Parthenon Kids and producer March Entertainment are to roll out a full length movie prequel based on the animated TV series Dex Hamilton: Alien Entomologist.

The movie will premiere in Canada on CBC in late December, followed by the airing of the TV series in early 2010. It will also see a limited theatrical release, as well as a DVD launch next year.

"We are very excited about the release of Dex Hamilton: Fire and Ice," said Dan Hawes, CEO of March Entertainment. "It's a fast paced, action comedy that will have audiences laughing and gasping at the same time."

Marie Chappelow, commercial director, children's brands at Parthenon - which will be distributing the film globally (apart from Australia, NZ and North America) - added: "Dex Hamilton has proved to be a success on both sides of the world. The release of the movie will, I'm sure, create even more interest in Dex amongst international broadcasters."

The franchise will be further expanded next spring with the launch of an interactive browser-based game called Dex Quest.
