Paul Rudd is to star as the title character in Marvel's Ant-Man.
While the plot is still under wraps, in Marvel Comics Ant-Man is the superhero alter ego of Henry Pym, a scientist who invents a substance that allowed him to change his size.
Ant-Man is being directed by Shaun of the Dead's Edgar Wright, while Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce the film with Nira Park.
"When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star," said Marvel's Kevin Feige.
"We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we'd ever met with about doing the work, we knew we'd found the right guy.
"We couldn't be more excited for our audiences to see what he's going to do to bring Ant-Man to life."
Rudd is best known for his roles in a range of US comedies including This is 40, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up and is currently on the big screen as Sex Panther-wearing field reporter Brian Fantana in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
Marvel's Ant-Man is scheduled to land in cinemas on July 31st, 2015.
