The Penguin Group is to publish a collection of books based on the forthcoming film and TV series Star Wars The Clone Wars.
The books will make their debut this summer, ahead of the August 15th cinema release of The Clone Wars.
The deal between Lucasfilm and The Penguin Young Readers Group marks the first global licensed publishing programme based on the CG animation. The programme spans multiple imprints within Penguin Young Readers Group (US), DK Publishing and Penguin Group (UK).
The Clone Wars takes place between Episodes II and III of the Star Wars saga and will arrive in the US on August 15th. International release dates will be revealed soon. In the autumn, The Clone Wars will continue as a prime time TV series on Cartoon Network and TNT.
"We have had a long creative partnership with Lucasfilm that has been wonderfully collaborative and fruitful," said Alex Allan, category publisher at DK Licensing. "The Clone Wars franchise has exciting new content that is sure to appeal to a new generation of young readers around the world."
Eric Huang, category publisher for brands and licensing at Penguin UK, added: "Penguin Group UK is delighted to be part of the global Clone Wars publishing agreement shared across imprints and with our sister companies around the world."
The books will be available in the US from July 26th, while they will hit the UK on August 7th.
Picture, activity, movie novels, sticker books and story books will be included in the range.
