Peter Capaldi revealed as the new star of Doctor Who

The Thick of It actor will replace Matt Smith and become the twelfth Doctor

For Doctor Who fans, the wait is over. Peter Capaldi has been revealed as the twelfth Doctor.

The actor is most likely known for his role as the expletive-spitting Malcom Tucker from The Thick of It and Capaldi will be replacing Matt Smith as the star of the iconic BBC show. 

Capaldi was the bookmakers' favourite to take on the role and he has appeared in the show before as Roman merchant Caecilius in the 2008 episode The Fires of Pompeii.

At 55, Capaldi is 25 years older than Matt Smith and is the same age that William Hartnell, the first Doctor, was when he took on the role in 1963.
