Pixar’s latest animated feature Finding Dory has helped Disney push past the $5 billion worldwide box office milestone in record time.

The weekend saw the Finding Nemo sequel take over $50 million globally, contributing to the studio’s record-breaking total.

Last year, Universal surged past the $5bn marker thanks to the success of its Jurassic World.

Disney now takes the crown as the fastest studio to hit $3bn internationally, reaching the total on July 6 and beating Universal’s previous $3bn offshore record set on July 8, 2015.

Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory has now overtaken Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War to become the biggest film at the 2016 domestic box office with an estimated $423 million.

According to Deadline, Dory continues to perform well with Korea debuting strongly and many major regions still to open including Mexico, Japan and the UK.
