Platinum Films is strengthening its hold on the South African market with the appointment of a new licensing agent: Revolution.

Its animated adventure series Matt Hatter Chronicles is already the top performing show on South African broadcasting channel SABC.

Season One of the show launched on SABC1 last October and pulled in a season high of 1.4 million viewers across all ages for a single episode.

Its South African success mirrors its UK ratings on ITV and CiTV, where the series reached over four million viewers between January and March.

Based in Cape Town, Revolution will implement a designated retail programme and consumer marketing campaign across South Africa in 2014.

Cindy Radmall, head of sales at Revolution, said: "We are extremely excited and proud to welcome Matt Hatter Chronicles into our fold.

"It sits perfectly within our boys' action offering and with fantastic ratings from SABC, we cannot wait to take this performance through onto a full consumer product offering in South Africa.

"Our attraction to working with Platinum Films is its passion to offer retailers something special."

Revolution also represents Warner Bros, Hasbro and Cartoon Network and its property portfolio includes Ben 10, Batman, Superman and Looney Tunes.

Platinum Film's South African licensing programme will follow the UK 2013 roll out, spearheaded by ITVS GE which represents Matt Hatter across merchandising, publishing and home entertainment in the UK, Eire, Australia and New Zealand.
