In its role as the North American licensing agent for Lucha Libre USA and the Lucha Libre AAA League, CPLG has signed Playmates Toys as the master toy licensee for the Mexican wrestling brand.
The US firm will now create a line of toys and collectibles, launching, for the first time in North America, officially-sanctioned products in autumn 2010.
The range will include fully-articulated Luchador action figures, role-play masks and play-sets.
"I believe that Playmates' experience in the action figure business is perfectly suited to meet the expectations of the Lucha Libre AAA fan base," said Louis Silverstein, managing partner at Lucha Libre USA. "We look forward to seeing our legendary wrestlers such as La Parka, Octagon and Cibernetico on the shelves at retail."
Kirk Bloomgarden, EVP worldwide consumer products at CPLG parent, Cookie Jar, added: "Cookie Jar Group is excited to have Playmates Toys on board as the master toy licensee for Lucha Libre AAA."
Lucha Libre AAA has been the premier wrestling league in Mexico for over 18 years and enjoys a near 80 per cent share of ticket sales domestically. It is one of the most popular live events in Mexico, after football.
Cookie Jar will distribute the first English language Lucha Libre AAA TV series in the US.
