Poetic Brands renews contracts for Miffy and Garfield as new movies and series loom

Licensed clothing specialist, Poetic Brands has renewed contracts for two of its best-selling brands, Miffy and Garfield.

Created by the Dutch artist and author Dick Bruna, Miffy is the bunny star of a series of books to have been translated into over 50 languages and sold more than 85 million copies worldwide.

Miffy has been the subject of three TV series and a movie.

Meanwhile, Garfield celebrates his 40th birthday this year and still features in over 2,100 newspapers across the globe. The brand is responsible for book sales in excess of 135 million copies to date, two feature-length live-action films, three CGI animated movies and a musical.

A new animated series will launch in 2018, while a new full-length feature film is currently in development.

“Both Miffy and Garfield are hugely popular and our existing lines are flying off the shelves, so we are delighted to extend our involvement,” said Elliot Matthews of Poetic Brands.

“This will give us the opportunity to develop more best-selling lines based on these evergreen brands.”
