Popeye teams with D&G for new apparel line

King Features seals deal with fashion label for spring/summer collection.

Classic character Popeye is to appear on a range of high-end apparel following a deal with fashion house, Dolce & Gabbana.

The new spring/summer 2012 collection will be marketed under the D&G brand and will include t-shirts, sweatshirts and tank tops for adults and children.

The items will be available in boutiques and high-end department stores worldwide from March 2012.

D&G joins a healthy list of fashion licensees and retailers which have worked with King Features' Popeye brand. These include Benetton, Bloomingdale's, Gap, H&M, Lucien Pellat-Finet, Miss Sixty and Zara.

"King is very pleased to be partnering with an outstanding global brand like Dolce & Gabbana," said Cathleen Titus, VP of international licensing at King Features. "As a cultural icon, Popeye resonates with consumers worldwide."

The deal was brokered by King's Italian agent, Premium Srl.
