Puffin has acquired the publishing rights to develop Moomin into a new range of picture and novelty books for young children.
The deal was agreed with Bulls Press and Parthenon and will see Puffin selling rights in the new books at Bologna 2009.
Created by Tove Jansson and originally written in Swedish, the Moomintroll books have been translated into 34 languages and adapted for television, film, opera and radio. The new range will launch in 2010, the year Moomin celebrates its 65th anniversary and Puffin its 70th.
"This further endorses the universal appeal of Moomin," said Marten Rudolfsson from Bulls Press. "We are very excited about bringing Moomin to an even wider audience."
Caroline Mickler, brand consultant to Parthenon Entertainment, added: "We believe that Moomin has unique ingredients to become a staple classic and part of children's growing up years around the world. Puffin's vision for Moomin absolutely mirrors ours and we are delighted by this new partnership."
