German children's channel Kika has struck a deal with ZDF Enterprises to air the pre-school animated series, Q Pootle 5.

Produced in the UK by Snapper Productions, Q Pootle 5 is based on the book series from popular children's author, Nick Butterworth.

The kids' show follows the adventures of Q Pootle 5 and his friends, Oopsy, Eddi, Stella, Ray, Groobie, Bud-D and Planet Dave.

Q Pootle 5 launched last year on CBeebies in the UK and reached over four million viewers, becoming one of the channel's highest rated programmes.

Ben Butterworth, Snapper Productions, said: "We have been overwhelmed by the positive response to Q Pootle 5 and its ever-growing popularity both in the UK and internationally.

"We are thrilled Q Pootle 5 and his fiends have found their way to Germany and we couldn't wish for a better home for the series than Kika."

Sebastian Debertin, Kika's head of fiction and acquisitions, added: "Q Pootle 5 is a beautifully animated series with a lovely bunch of great characters, created by top kids author Nick Butterworth, bringing truly entertaining stories to Kika screens."

The property's licensing programme is managed in the UK by Rocket Licensing who has already signed a number of licensees for the brand, including Walker Books, Blue Sky Designs, Immediate Media, Egmont, Jumbo and Rainbow Productions.

The kids' series has also been sold to ABC in Australia where it airs on ABC4Kids. Other territories are being negotiated and are expected to be announced shortly.
