DHX Media has teamed with a number of partners to launch a new curricular music in schools project, featuring its Rastamouse character.

The Rocksteady Reggae School programme draws from the musical elements of the popular show and has been developed by Three Stones Media, The Rastamouse Company and primary school music specialists, with the support of EMI Music, EMI Publishing, Music and Arts Adviser from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and DHX Media.

As part of the ten-week programmed incorporated into the timetable covering National Curriculum Early Years and Key Stage One music, and with over 70 bespoke musical instruments plus additional percussion resources, the programme also extends into literacy, social education and arts and crafts.

During half hour lessons, children are split into four groups to explore rhythmic and melodic aspects of Da Easy Crew's favourite tunes, developing their ability to feel and follow a musical pulse. Over the ten-week course, the groups will recreate the Cookin & Jammin and Bandulu's Pie songs, learning the role of drums, bass, guitars and vocal lines, while experiencing playing and mastering performance skills.

Rocksteady Reggae School will be rolling out to four further schools in Kensington & Chelsea, following a successful pilot at St Mary's RC School, West London.

"We're very excited that the musical elements of the brand are allowing us to develop and enhance the interaction that Rastamouse has with his audience," said Greg Boardman from Three Stones Media. "The feedback from children and from their teachers is amazing, and helps reinforce all aspects of our storytelling."
