Sherlock and Breaking Bad take limelight at Primetime Emmy Awards

Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Steven Moffat each took an award for the popular mini series.

Sherlock was the star of the 66th annual Primetime Emmy Awards with a total of seven wins, including Best Lead Actor in a Mini Series for Benedict Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch received the award for his portrayal of the infallible detective, while Martin Freeman scooped a win for Best Supporting Actor in a Mini Series, for his role as Watson.

Meanwhile, Steven Moffat took the award for writing for a mini home on the night.

Breaking Bad took second place at the event, held on Monday, August 25th with a total of six awards for its final season.

The show took its second Best Drama Series trophy in a row, as well as statuettes for stars Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul, writes the Hollywood Reporter.

HBO’s Game of Thrones garnered an impressive four awards, alongside American Horror Story: Coven.

The Simpsons left with a horde of three awards, alongside Disney Mickey Mouse and prison series Orange Is the New Black.

The HBO network collected the most wins of the night with a staggering 19 to its name, followed by CBS and PBS with 11 each.
