Sony launches Spider-Verse Web AR concept ahead of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated feature

Sony has launched its new Spider-Verse Web AR Experience, a mobile augmented reality concept based on its animation Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The AR experience is designed to let users see Spider-Man in AR, where they can take pictures and share them with friends. It has been created by the mixed reality developers 8th Wall and Trigger.

“Spider-Man is a perfect match for AR not only because his acrobatic moves and iconic poses lend themselves well to the format, but because he’s one of the most relatable superheroes,” said Rose Phillips, senior VP of digital marketing at Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“We believe Web AR is the final barrier for mass adoption of AR,” added Jason Yim, CEO and executive creative director of Trigger.

The AR experience lands ahead of the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated feature which hits cinemas this December 14th.
