Sony Pictures is to launch a female superhero movie within the Spider-Man franchise in 2017.
Deadline has learned that having postponed the next Spider-Man movie to 2018, the studio is now doing 'a top-to-bottom revamp of its most important property'.
Lisa Joy (Pushing Daisies) will write the script for the untitled superhero movie, and Deadline believes the potential focus for the film could be anyone from 'Silver Sable, Black Cat, Stunner, Firestar and Spider-Woman, to name a few'.
“What other movies we could do was something everyone started talking about when shooting the last movie,” said 'one person with knowledge of the plans'.
“With Salt, Wanted and Lucy, there is a huge appetite for this right now.”
Last year, Sony Pictures revealed plans to expand the Spider-Man franchise with spin-off movies focusing on villains including Venom and The Sinister Six.
