New animated series The Spectacular Spider-man is looking to continue the brand's dominance within the consumer products sector, with a number of further deals signed.
Spider-Man Merchandising - the partnership between Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Marvel - has inked agreements with Hallmark (social expressions), AME (sleepwear), Kid Designs (electronics), Mad Engine (t-shirts) and Mega Brands (toys).
The Spectacular Spider-Man picks up the original mythology at the beginning of the character's journey as a 16 year-old entering his junior year of high school.
The first wave of licensing partners included Hasbro (master toy licensee), Wear Me Apparel (master apparel), IMT (sporting goods) and Bendon Publishing (publishing) to name just a few.
The series is due to debut in the US in early 2008 as part of the Kids WB line-up on The CW Network. Marvel and Sony Pictures Television have also greenlit Culver Entertainment to begin production on an additional 13 half-hour episodes for the series, bringing the current run to 26 episodes.
