A number of companies are in the frame to become a partner of BBC Magazines, including the owner of thetrainline.com, according to various internet reports.

Broadcast claimed earlier this week that the firm's portfolio was to be sold for £100m, while other names mentioned include Bauer and H Bauer, according to MediaWeek.

BBC Worldwide confirmed that it is actively seeking a single partner for the successful magazine business last September.

"In September 2010, the BBC Trust gave the green light to BBC Magazines to search for a partner, to enable our portfolio of profitable, market leading titles to meet its potential, while still protecting the BBC's editorial standards and brands," the firm said in a statement.

"The process is going well, but we will not be confirming names or commenting on speculation around the shortlisted bidders. Please note that any eventual partnership would still need final approval from the BBC Trust."
