Spellbound's Koalas head to Spain

Imira signs deals with TVE and Planeta Junior for The Koala Brothers.

UK children's rights owner and producer Spellbound Entertainment has revealed a spate of new broadcast and publishing deals in Europe for its multi award winning pre-school series, The Koala Brothers.

Both deals were brokered by Spanish producer and distributor Imira Entertainment which has also been appointed as Spellbound’s licensing agent for the Spanish market.

State broadcaster TVE in Spain has bought the free TV rights to all 39 x half hour episodes of The Koala Brothers. TVE joins a growing list of public broadcasters to have picked up the series.

Meanwhile, Planeta Junior, part of Spain’s largest publishing house Grupo Planeta has acquired the publishing rights for novelty, colouring and activity books.

Imira Entertainment was awarded the rights to represent Spellbound's pre-school property in Spain across TV, licensing and merchandising last year. Imira also represents the television distribution rights for The Koala Brothers in Latin America.

Big Picture Entertainment recently acquired the home entertainment rights for The Koala Brothers in Spain. Big Picture represents a number of other prestigious pre-school titles including Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine, Charlie and Lola, Pocoyo and Cailou.

Initial product launches are expected for autumn 2009 with a full roll out expected in 2010. Further licensing partners will be announced shortly.

The Koala Brothers was originally commissioned by CBBC in the UK. It has now been acquired by 55 broadcasters covering over 155 territories worldwide, including Disney Channel in the US and Japan; Discovery Kids in Latin America; RTP and Canal Panda in Portugal; Super RTL in Germany; France 5 and Canal J in France; ABC and Nickelodeon in Australia; RAI2 and Disney Channel in Italy; Jetix in Holland; Cartoon Network in India; EBS and Cartoon Network in Korea; TV 12 in Singapore; Denmark's TV2; Norway’s TV2; Sweden’s TV4 and Finland’s TV4 Nelonen.
