C&S Collectables, the UK-based supplier of ceramic collectable figurines and quality gifts, has received the licence to produce SpongeBob SquarePants figurines for the UK market.
The first phase of the giftware launch will include four figurines of SpongeBob in familiar situations and further designs are already being planned.
The figurines will appear in a range of gift stores across the UK from early summer. Given the wide age range that SpongeBob appeals to, the target market is expected to be both male and female with an age range from five to 25.
C&S Collectables was established in 1986 selling ceramic collectable figurines to the specialist market and has grown to supply to the UK and world market through gift shops, specialist outlets and online. Its range includes a selection of licensed characters.
The SpongeBob brand now has more than 88 licensees producing products in the UK with 20 new licensees contracted in 2007.
David Chown, Director of C&S Collectables said: “We are delighted to be working with a character that is not only unique but is loved by all ages. SpongeBob will be joining a select group of iconic characters in our range that have proved enormously popular as figurines, both in the collectors’ and gift markets.”
Nickelodeon’s UK Licensing Manager, Ashley Holman said: "We knew a market existed for quality, collectable figurines of SpongeBob, but we took great care to find a company that would do him justice. C&S Collectables, whose work includes a long-standing association with Wade Ceramics, one of the most famous names in the porcelain collectables world, was the perfect choice.''
